What are your initial thoughts about the concept of Literacy with ICT (LwICT)?
My initial thouhgt is sounds great. Technology, and the advancement of it, is the norm for students today. Who knows what the new and exciting gizmo will be norm tomorrow that they will need to utilize in the world of tomorrow. Preparing students by allowing them to utiize technoloyg across the curriculum, and use it responsibly, is something that is needed.
What implementation barriers for LwICT do you foresee at Senior Years? An implimentation barrier that I forsee is fear/uncertainty. Fear of the misuse of technology and the questions of how to monitor it may hinder the implimentation.
What opportunities does LwICT present for Senior Years? It alows students to use tools that they are familiear with to demonstrate their understanding of the outcomes being taught in their classrooms.
What professional learning is required initially to prepare Senior Years teachers to begin to use the LwICT continuum? PD time is needed for teachers to learn about the various technologies that are out their and how to use them in the various subjects that they teach.
What types of ICT are available to you in your school, but not in your classroom? There are several multimedia programs that are available in the school but not in my classroom.
What subjects and grades do you teach and how do you currently use ICT to enhance student learning? The subjects I teach are: Consumer Math 40S, Pre-Calculus Math 20S, Biology 30S, and Career Development 20S. In these subjects I currently use a variety if ICT tools. Tools such as Smart Boards, Power Point, Movie Maker, Photo Story, Audacit, Publisher, etc. I am open to a variey of ICT opportunities that would help students with their learning.
